Here are the steps to make your Facebook profile private:
- Go to your Facebook profile and click on the three horizontal line menu in the top right.
- Select “Settings & Privacy” then click on Settings.
- On the left sidebar, click “Privacy”.
- Under the Privacy heading, click “Privacy shortcuts”.
- Click on “Friends” to change who can see your future posts. Choose from options like Friends, Friends except…, Only Me, etc.
- Scroll down and click “Limit Past Posts”. Choose “Limit Old Posts” so only your friends can see previous posts.
- While still under “Privacy Shortcuts”, click on “Your Activity” and make sure the option for “Who can see your future activity?” is set to “Friends”.
- Scroll to the very bottom and set “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile?” to No.
- Finally, go back to the original Privacy page and under “How people find and contact you”, limit who can send you friend requests or message you.
- Don’t forget to also review your photos, videos, and other content visibility. Set these to be visible to only friends as well.
