Here are a few steps to make your Twitter account private:
- Open the Twitter app on your phone or go to twitter.com and log into your account.
- Go to your profile by tapping your profile icon in the top left (on mobile) or clicking your profile picture (on desktop).
- Tap the 3 dot menu icon next to the Edit profile button.
- Select Settings and Privacy.
- Go to the Privacy and Safety section.
- Toggle on the “Protect your Tweets” option. This makes your account private.
- Tap through to confirm that you want to make your account private.
- Go back to your profile and you should now see a lock icon indicating your account is private.
When your account is private, your existing followers will remain but all new follower requests must be approved by you before they can see your tweets. Your tweets also won’t appear in public Twitter searches.
You can toggle the “Protect your Tweets” option off at any time to make your account public again. Let me know if you need any other Twitter help!
