Here are some tips on how to learn to twerk:

  • Master the basic booty shake. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Bend forward slightly at the hips and shake your butt up and down and side to side. Get comfortable moving your hips and booty.
  • Work on bouncing. Bend your knees deeper and pulse your knees up and down lightly to bounce your booty. Place your hands on your knees as you bounce to help guide the movement. Start slow and low before bouncing higher.
  • Try some isolation. Focus on shifting just your hips, butt, or thighs back and forth or up and down. Isolate the movement without moving your back or shoulders.
  • Practice popping your hips back and forth. Thrust your hips back then forwards quickly while arching your back. Really emphasize and exaggerate the hip thrusts.
  • Loosen up through your hips, knees, and ankles before attempting fast twerking. The key is being able to freely gyrate and isolate parts of your lower body.
  • Start twerking and standing up before trying it with your hands on the ground. Keep your back straight and feet wide apart, then pop and bounce your booty as fast as you can.
  • Use videos online to help learn movements and get inspiration. Watch yourself in the mirror to ensure proper form. Go at your own pace and have fun with it!
